To designate a fail-safe operator
In Object Explorer, connect to an instance of the SQL Server Database Engine, and then expand that instance.
Right-click SQL Server Agent and select Properties. Click the Alert System page.
Under Fail-safe operator, check Enable fail-safe operator. In the Operator list, click an operator.
Click the appropriate notification types to specify how the operator will be notified.
