Change default name for OneDrive For Business folder

The default name for OneDrive for Business is "OneDrive - BusinessName". I would like to create OneDrive as "OneDrive BusinessName", without the dash. I have set OneDrive to back up My Documents and I have AutoCAD installed and it doesn't like the dash in the path name for folders it creates in Documents. I know I can use another folder to put the files in, but it is still in "C:\Users\UserName\OneDrive - BusinessName\" and this is not working. It would be nice if there was a way to get rid of the dash when linking a new account.

All I wanted to do was rename the onedrive folder in explorer. Because it just shows the organisation name.

I did find this and tried this on my own pc and it did work for me.

    https://medium.com/@osaycanyousay/changing-your-onedrive-name-in-file-explorer-navigation-d854fd901198

Basically.. Quit Onedrive. Go to c:\users\user\appdata\local\microsoft\onedrive\settings

You will see the accounts as folders. If you only have one then it is Business1

In the folder edit the GUID looking ini file and on line one find and change the "c:\users\user\OneDrive - Company" to what you want ie "c:\users\user\OneDrive - Fred"

    Save the file..

Rename you onedrive folder "C:\users\user\OneDrive - Company" to the same name.

Start Onedrive again and you will see that in Explorer the OneDrive - Company now Shows OneDrive - Fred

Love to hear if this works for anyone one else out there.

Quite often we setup a master onedrive user and share off a folder for everyone else to use. So we use onedrive web access to sync the shared folder down, but of course that shows up with a different squared icon but still has the same name. So if we can change the local users one drive icon name in explorer they can easily see what folder they are looking at.

I also found that if you unlink an account and you go to delete the c:\users\user\onedrive folder you cannot delete it. The answer to that is delete the c:\users\user\appdata\local\microsoft\onedrive\settings\Business1 folder.. Once that is done you can delete the c:\users\user\onedrive folder! Somehow onedrive or microsoft still has a hold on that directory even though onedrive has been quitted.

Steps to Change the Display Name of OneDrive for Business:

    1. Quit your business OneDrive Accounts:
    2. Open Registry Editor:
      • Press Win + R, type regedit, and press Enter to open the Registry Editor.
    3. Navigate to OneDrive Accounts:
      • In the Registry Editor, navigate to HKEY_CURRENT_USER\Software\Microsoft\OneDrive\Accounts.
    4. Find Business Account:
      • Under Accounts, locate the folder that corresponds to your OneDrive for Business account (e.g., Business1).
    5. Modify DisplayName:
      • Inside the business account folder (e.g., Business1), find the DisplayName entry.
      • Right-click on DisplayName and select "Modify".
      • Change the value to your desired name (e.g., OneDrive BusinessName without the dash).
    6. Re-Run OneDrive app:

    Detailed Example:

    Registry Path: HKEY_CURRENT_USER\Software\Microsoft\OneDrive\Accounts\Business1

    Key to Modify: DisplayName

    New Value: OneDrive BusinessName

    Additional Considerations:

Backup Registry: Always back up your registry before making changes.

Restart: Restart your computer after making these changes to ensure they take effect.

It worked for me as am using:

    Edition Windows 11 Home

    Version 23H2

    OS build 22631.3958
