RDS Broker: Error: The list of joined nodes could not be retrieved on .... Privilege not held.

Hi community,

usually I am a silent reader but now I really need some specific help.

I got to configure High Availability to a RDS farm and add a second broker.

Some trial and error later (my colleagues and I are a little lost, new to this topic) I get this following error message.

Error: The list of joined nodes could not be retrieved on ...>. Privilege not held.

Someone has had this before and has a hint for me how to resolve?

I ended up having to be on the server I was adding. It wouldn't do the deployment remotely.

So say the server was CB02.
Add-RDServer -ConnectionBroker "CB01" -Server "CB02" -Role RDS-CONNECTION-BROKER

Then it installed.

I thoguht it was fixed. Nope... I wish MS would make a document for their software.

I had this issue, and following the instructions at https://thesleepyadmins.com/2024/01/26/windows-server-2022-rds-ha-broker-privilege-not-held/ resolved it for me.

The short version: On the second server, delete the Registry value HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SYSTEM\CurrentControlSet\Services\Tssdis\Parameters\DBConnString; remove the RDS server roles; and reboot.
