Hello,
I’m trying to secure my Azure App Service with a Managed Certificate for my custom domain: dev.soclia.fr.
Here’s what I did:
- I successfully added
dev.soclia.fras a custom domain under my App Service. - DNS is configured with a CNAME pointing
dev.soclia.fr→myapp.azurewebsites.net. - Domain shows as Verified in Azure.
- I then used the “Create App Service Managed Certificate” option, which succeeded.
- However, when trying to create the TLS/SSL binding, I get this error:
Successfully created App Service Managed Certificate, but failed to configure SSL binding for dev.soclia.fr due to error: Parameter Thumbprint is null or empty.

Based on this old thread :
After you request a managed certificate, it takes some time for Azure to provision it, issue it, and make it available. This process can take anywhere from a few minutes to, in rare cases, a bit longer. If you immediately try to create the binding after requesting the certificate, the thumbprint won't be available yet.
We suggest waiting a few minutes (10-15 is usually sufficient) after requesting the managed certificate before attempting to create the SSL binding. Refresh the App Service's "SSL/TLS settings" page in the Azure portal to check if the certificate's status has changed from "Creating" or similar to "Issued" or "Ready."

This issue occurs when the certificate hasn't fully provisioned yet.
Possible Solutions
Wait for Certificate Provisioning
- Azure takes some time to issue and provision the certificate.
- Wait 10-15 minutes and refresh the SSL/TLS settings page in the Azure portal to check if the certificate status has changed to "Issued" or "Ready".
Manually Retrieve the Thumbprint
- If the certificate is issued but the binding fails, try retrieving the thumbprint manually:
- Navigate to Azure Portal → App Service → TLS/SSL settings.
- Locate the certificate and check if the thumbprint is available.
Check Domain Verification
- Ensure that your domain is correctly verified in Azure App Service.
- If verification is incomplete, Azure may not issue the certificate.
Try Recreating the Certificate
- Delete the existing managed certificate and request a new one.
- Sometimes, a fresh request resolves provisioning issues.
