How to get OneDrive to sync certain file types, e.g. .exe?

I've come to realize that OneDrive will not sync .exe files unless I first upload them via the web. If I add a new exe file to a directory being synced, it just gets flagged as "excluded from sync". Once I upload it to the website, then it will proceed to sync normally.

Is there a way to change this? I'm constantly adding files via the local machine with the expectation they will sync up so that they are available on other machines, but this obviously hinders that.

I'm assuming there are file types that are excluded by default but I cannot find what those may be. I've modified my clientpolicy.ini file to include |exe| in the tier1 extension list, but that had no effect.

This affects other file extensions as well. I use my OneDrive to store certain portable applications that I can carry with me to any computer I use so I ultimately need to include many file types that may typically be excluded by default.
