Azure Application Gateway V1 Basic IP Upgrade Notice

Hi,

We currently have an Azure Application Gateway V1 that uses Basic IP and I understand that Basic SKU IP addresses should be upgraded to Standard SKU by 20 September 2025.

However, we've received the following email from Azure to advise that our Azure Application Gateway V1 won't be impacted by this change and it should be ok to carry to using Basic SKU IP until 28 April 2026.

Could you please confirm that this is definitely the case and that we don't need to worry about upgrading the IP to Standard SKU until 28 April 2026.

    Hello Lee

    Yes, based on the recent communication from Microsoft, your Azure AGW V1 using a Basic Public IP address is not impacted by the 20 September 2025 deadline for the general retirement of Basic IPs.

    • Existing Application Gateway V1 deployments are fully supported until April 28, 2026. After that date, any active V1 resources will be stopped and deleted. Refer AGW-Retirement-FAQ
    • However, it is recommended to plan the migration to Application Gateway V2 to take advantage of improved performance and features.

    Therefore, you do not need to upgrade before April 28, 2026.

    Based on the latest update from Microsoft, your Azure Application Gateway V1 (AGW V1) with a Basic Public IP address is not impacted by the September 20, 2025 deadline for the general retirement of Basic IPs.

    Your existing AGW V1 deployments are fully supported until April 28, 2026. After this date, any active V1 resources will be stopped and deleted. For more details, check out the AGW-Retirement-FAQ.

    It's highly recommended to plan your migration to Application Gateway V2 to enjoy enhanced performance and features. So, no rush—you have until April 28, 2026, to upgrade!
