I cannot convert my current VNG SKU VpnGW2 to anything lower, even though it is available in my region, e.g. Central US. Powersell scripts don't work, Azure CLI commands don't work. Can I get assistance from Azure support?

    Hi Rodney,

In order to resize from VpnGw2 SKU to VpnGw1 SKU, your Virtual Network Gateway must be Generation1. I suspect your Virtual Network Gateway is Generation2, which is why you are unable to switch.

To see what generation your Virtual Network Gateway is, please navigate to it in the portal and click on Settings -- Configuration. It must show Generation1 as seen in screenshot below:

    VPN Gateway Settings Configuration blade

If yours says Generation2, you will need to delete and recreate your Virtual Network Gateway to change it to VpnGw1. Except of workflow from documentation below:

The following steps illustrate the workflow to change a SKU.

    1. Remove any connections to the virtual network gateway.
    2. Delete the old VPN gateway.
    3. Create the new VPN gateway.
    4. Update your on-premises VPN devices with the new VPN gateway IP address (for site-to-site connections).
    5. Update the gateway IP address value for any VNet-to-VNet local network gateways that connect to this gateway.
    6. Download new client VPN configuration packages for point-to-site clients connecting to the virtual network through this VPN gateway.
    7. Recreate the connections to the virtual network gateway.

Please click Accept Answer and upvote if the above was helpful.

    Thanks.
