Cannot view virtual machine inventory

Thank you for your follow-up. Based on your description, the issue could indeed be related to your site-to-site VPN configuration, but other factors may also contribute. So most likely possibilities is:

Site-to-Site VPN Configuration

Route Propagation: Ensure that routes to Azure virtual networks are properly advertised via BGP (if using dynamic routing) or manually added to your on-premises gateway.

Traffic Flow: Verify that traffic to Azure management endpoints (e.g., management.azure.com) is not being forced through an unexpected path (e.g., a proxy or firewall blocking API calls).

next one is network security/firewall restrictions

If your corporate LAN applies outbound filtering, the Azure Portal (which relies on multiple backend APIs) may be partially blocked, leading to missing inventory data.

Check if Azure IP ranges/Service Tags (especially AzureCloud) are allowed in your corporate firewall.

Conditional Access or Azure RBAC Policies. If you use Azure Conditional Access, ensure no policies restrict portal access based on location (e.g., only allowing external IPs).

Confirm your user account has the same permissions when connecting internally vs. externally.

DNS Resolution Differences. Internal DNS may resolve Azure endpoints differently than external DNS. Test with a tool like nslookup management.azure.com from both networks.

To isolate the issue, you could test from a corporate LAN machine while temporarily disabling VPN (if possible). Compare browser developer console logs (F12) in both scenarios for blocked requests.

Review Azure Activity Logs for denied operations.

I am actually still experiencing an issue with accessing our VM inventory when connected to the LAN. I have attached a screenshot of the f12 output that displays the error. The listed domain is included within our access control rules for allowed destinations. The second attachment is the f12 output for when the connection is working as expected (Not connected to LAN).
