One user cannot search nor edit items in a list. Other users in the same security group can search and edit. They cleared their browser cache for Edge & IE.

Their permission is Contribute, Limited Access to the list and the items they wish to edit. (Other items in the list, they only have read permission - because they are complete.)

    Hi @UnderwoodMarlene-1858,

Really glad to know that the problem has been solved. We sincerely appreciate you sharing the solution to the problem.

By the way, since it is the policy of the Microsoft Q&A community that "question authors cannot accept their own answers" and in order to better archive cases so that other community members with the same question can benefit from them as well, I would make a brief summary of this thread:

[One user cannot search nor edit items in a list]

Issue Symptom: A member of a SharePoint group can't edit and search for items in a list, even though he has contribute permission level to the list and edit permission level to some items.

Current status: A problem with a user's permissions to another site is causing the problem. The local helpdesk then renamed his VDI profile and his new zero client session was working properly again for both SharePoint sites.

You could click the "Accept Answer" button for this summary to close this thread, and this can make it easier for other community members to see the useful information when reading this thread. Your contribution is highly appreciated.Certainly, if there is anything else I can do for you, please do not hesitate to reach me.

    Hi @UnderwoodMarlene-1858,

Thanks for reaching out to us. We are very pleased to assist you.

According to the information you provided and the research I have done, I may understand that there is a problem with the permissions of items in a list for a particular user. If there is anything wrong, please correct me.

If there is not anything wrong, it is suggested that you please try the following possible solution:

    1. Based on your description, your user has item-level permissions, so we need to check the user's permissions to the item first.
      • Please contact the administrator who has permission to view the list's permission.
      • Click the item in question
      • View this item's permissions. User's image User's image
      • Enter the name of the user who is having the problem.
      • Check if the user has the correct edit permission for this item. Items are likely to break inheritance permissions, so please double-check that the user has the correct editing permissions for each item he has the right to edit. If this is not the case, fix the permissions and see if they still exist. User's image
    2. If the permissions are correct but the problem persists, then most likely the program had a problem setting the permissions for that user, I would suggest that you remove the user's permissions to those items and then re-add the permissions. Then recheck to see if the problem still exists.
    3. Even though the user has cleared their browser cache, SharePoint may still hold cached credentials or session data.
      • Kindly request the user to clear all browsing data, including cookies and site data, for Edge in IE-mode. Additionally, you may suggest using the 'InPrivate' mode in Edge to ensure that any cached session data is eliminated for testing purposes.
    4. Recheck the User’s Group Membership: Ensure the user is correctly added to the security group in AD and that group membership is properly synchronized within SharePoint.
      • Go to the SharePoint site in question.
      • Navigate to Site Settings > People and groups.
      • In the left-hand menu, click on the relevant security group (for example, “Members,” “Contributors,” etc.).
      • Search for the user to verify they are listed in the group.

If you have any questions, please do not hesitate to contact me.

Moreover, if the issue can be fixed successfully, please click “Accept Answer” so that we can better archive the case and the other community members who are suffering the same issue can benefit from it.

Your kind contribution is much appreciated.
