Win2022 RDS creating UPD for admins not even in a collection

Hello Community,

I just created a simple Remote Desktop Services (RDS) setup and enabled User Profiles Disks (UPD).

When I connect directly to a session host (mstsc /admin) with a domain admin which is not member of any collection, it creates a UPD. I want a local profile for the admins.

I don't want the admins to have a UPD. I want to be able to open a session on RDS-SH1 and RDS-SH2 at the same time which is not possible with a UDP. (The second session ends up in a Temporary profile.)

Here is the setup:

Windows Server 2022

RDS-Broker (broker, license, RD Web, UDP)

RDS-SH1 (Session host)

RDS-SH2 (Session host)

Collection: Apps

User Group for the collection "Apps": MyDomain\Apps-Grp

Currently there is not any user in the "Apps-Grp", so my admins are not member. There is no other collection.

For now there is only a couple of GPO applied so it's very simple to check. I cannot see any setting that seems to be related.

If I login to the RDWeb with my admin account, it logs in but I don't see any app (which is OK as I'm not member of any collection)

My online researches lead me to nowhere. I feel the Google AI understands me but...

Any suggestions?

Thank you!

    Hello,

Thank you for posting in Microsoft Q&A.

Based on the description, I understand your question is related to UDP.

Create or edit a Group Policy Object (GPO) that applies to your RDS servers that domain admins do not use User Profile Disks (UPD) and instead use local profiles.

Navigate to Computer Configuration -> Administrative Templates -> Windows Components -> Remote Desktop Services -> Remote Desktop Session Host -> User Profile Disks.

Enable the setting Do not use User Profile Disks for the following users and specify the domain admin accounts or groups.

After applying the changes, restart the RDS session hosts to ensure the new settings take effect.

    Have a nice day.

    Best Regards,

    Molly
