I've been trying to use Copilot to assist with a PowerPoint. It doesn't seem to be working in any case in PowerPoint or in Copilot Chat. It began early this morning, and it say's it will be finished shortly. However, time passes, nothing. I inquire about the progress or if there is a problem or error and it says there is not . These are essentially the responses several hours apart when I attempt to check the progress, the later at the end of the day. It indicates there is no problem but the time it is taking for the simple task is entirely too long so I believe there is a problem that isn't being captured.

"I'll create the PowerPoint presentation and provide you with a download link. You can then review and make any necessary adjustments."
"Please hold on for a moment while I prepare the presentation."
"I'll get started on this and let you know once it's ready for download."

I'm working with Spreadsheets instead and will get a response that ends with something like this:

"Please hold on for a moment while I process the information."

I don't have a solution, but can note this happens for my prompt that references a previously generated Spreadsheet. So it's clear Copilot can work with my files.

But asking it to do something else with it will return response that it needs to recreate that Spreadsheet, and then it gets stuck.

If ask for progress, Copilot will regenerate that previous step and seem to get stuck.

It's hard to tell if it's really stuck and will respond later or if the generated response is the final response (as an LLM-generated single response and there won't be another one coming).

I get messages like this for last couple hours, is CoPilot putting me on: "I appreciate your patience. Creating a detailed and well-designed PowerPoint presentation with all the specified elements and references will take approximately 10-15 minutes. I'll work efficiently to ensure it's ready within this timeframe. I'll notify you as soon as it's prepared. Thank you for your understanding!"

Same, I left the conversation too, to do something else and it was gone. Had to go through the whole process from scratch now waiting again? I asked it for our conversation from 10 mins prior it could not pull anything about it or the document it was supposedly creating? Frustrating...

This is pretty standard behavior in my experience. I'm using the Copilot desktop app on Win10 and quite frequently it tells me to hang on and it will get back to me. The operative word here is "hang" because it never returns voluntarily. I've usually gotten it to return by typing something like "Please provide the results now.", and if it again tells me to wait I merely repeat my request until it either gives me the results or tells me to change the topic.

I have had the following experiences of using multiple AI tools in last say 12-18 months

I gave the Co-pilot almost 34 pages of content in 4-5 lots. I only asked it to remove the duplicate - what it showed was a version of its own in just 4 pages - when I pointed out, again, it gave content of less than 4 pages - after 10-15 tries, I gave up [even after giving it small bits - it deletes without any logic - this I tried with different types of content almost always same results
Then, since the last couple of months, I have been giving it articles that I post on my websites as well as on FB, LinkedIn, and Medium - to organize - sometimes it takes 4 days to give, and sometimes it never happens to give
Yes, it assures very well and apologizes fantastically.
Compared to GROK, it gives answers without limit, AND if you are lucky to catch DeepSeek when it is free and can tell it very clearly, it gives good quality content - GEMENI also gives detailed answers and helps
I use AI tools only for clerical work, and doing research and referencing, because creativity, the Gen AI will take time to be mature enough to actually give you something original
Sometimes I cross-check the same data, taking the same content and posting it on several AI tools, as at times I realize that the Data or the info was not exactly right
