I am trying to post a message and it does not let me through. It gives to me the following error.

Please fix the following issues to continue: You are not authorized to make this response. If you believe this to be in error, please refresh the page and try again.

Is there a limit on the characters to post? The message was a bit long and it just contained 3 blocks of code. :(

Hi! I am happy to help with this issue. There is not a character limit to Microsoft Q&A posts, so that should not be an issue.

Have you tried refreshing your page and/or signing out and signing back in? There are intermittent caching errors that we are aware of and working on, and these workarounds often help users complete their posts in the meantime.

FYI, the source of my frustration with the forum came while trying to post this issue. The original message was a bit longer than that, and I could only posted when I removed some lines.
It seems that either there was an illegal character on the message or there is a text limit in place. If the second case applies then having a character counter will be a good idea :)

Nevertheless, thank you very much for your attention.

OK, so a user sees a post listed in the thread summary and is:

a) supposed to know instinctively that actually there is no post there at all so don't waste time looking for it!

b) go on to Microsoft Q&A and bitch about a)?

With Q&A, that recursion doesn't have an exit!

I just had three goes making a post and getting this rather unhelpful error. If there's too many characters in the post then SAY that, not a junk response like this "You are not authorized to make this response. If you believe this to be in error, please refresh the page and try again."

I've found that I get this error if I include a link in the question.

By removing the link, I could get my question to post.

Thank you for being the only answer with any workaround or solution.

Is there no response from MS on fixing this issue? At least update the error message to state that links aren't allowed, even if they're to github.com, ubuntu.com etc. and a very important and relevant part of the question being asked.

I'm attempting troubleshooting that includes an error message with links to repos and the script being called that's having the issue, and am receiving the same error still today. This is very disruptive for working on legitimate issues.

In my case, I could post a link, however I was prohibited from entering "dot htaccess", that is, the filename described here: https://httpd.apache.org/docs/2.4/howto/htaccess.html; not sure if this holds to all dot-prefixed words.

I keep getting "You are not authorized to make this response." even when I observed the 3 post question rules and I also tried without posting a link. It is frustrating without a technical support or any contact. Finally, I went onto StackOverflow to get my question answered.

I had a similar one! When I had the paths to Unix shells - "slash bin slash bash" or "slash bin slash sh", but with actual slash characters - in my subject line for a new-question post, I got the Not Authorized. Changing them to plain "bash" and "sh" without the slashes or full paths let me post it. Having those full paths in the body text of my question was not a problem.

I suspect a lot of this is is security-based "web application firewall" prohibiting of sensitive words that could be used in a hack attack.

I also found this was a problem when pasting HTTP headers. If I included the header text (even in a code block) for the following, I got the error. Looks like some form of content analysis going wrong.
